Sketchup track guides or references for custom content?
Post #1     : August 21, 2012, 04:24:53 AM
Hi there.
For the last week, ive been been working with sketchup and imported my first custom content into the game.

My ambition is to attempt to make some new custom content packs, but need a little help in the process.

Im looking to add custom ride cover supports for tracks, making the track themed. After alongtime playing rct3, the steel support custom content has got a little boring, and decided i wanted to try make some funky stuff of my own. If successful, i wish to upload a pack or two.

as for my question.
are there any tutorials/ plugins or references for making content support covers which match the track dimensions?
something i can use within sketchup, so that when i come to importing in the new content, the pieces match the track?

Thanks.

Currently trying to lower the poly count, quite drastically. (struggling  :( )
This is designed for a straight inverted coaster track cover.

Resized the model, because it seemed out of scale per square.
Also textured..

Just need to import into rct3 now.
This model will only cater for a straight piece of inverted coaster track.
Need to know co-rdinates to implement extra pieces for different pieces of track, such as inclines/turns and twists etc.
Time to create different parts such as supports, creatures body etc. :)

I don't have experience with the program, so I can not help you, sorry.
What I do need to say is that the track looks great, and I would love to see more appearing in the future.
Hope you will finish this, it would be a cool addition to my parks!

Support head.
(supposed to represent a restraint, stopping what ever it is (a creature) from moving)
just started the supports!

Ya no worries.
Im just having abit of fun none the less.
If im unable to gain any references or guides for measuring track. I wont be able to implement this project set as intended. The idea is just to cover over the top of the default track. This set if i do complete it, wont be a custom track, just custom scenery. Thats the idea anyway.

Ya. sketchup is pretty crap tbf. if i was able to, i would use 3dsmax. i have a degree in games design so, its my preffered program. Ive struggled to gain any easy process for 3dsmax, so im using sketchup, as it seems to be the preffered program used, with indeth easy to follow tutorials.
anyone can learn sketchup though. its very basic and pretty linear though. :(

Spacemtnman made a plugin for Sketchup that includes a few track pieces. It can be downloaded here in post #80: http://forums.atari.com/showthread.php?t=4943&page=8

If you want more information it should be there in the thread. Good job so far!

@Pb&j

the download doesnt exist anymore :(
boohoo..

Thanks for finding the forum link though.
appreciated.

Ya. It could be a whole lot better but as we all know polygon count cant be high, for obvious reasons.
they all still need to get tweeked here and there.
It may get really frustrating when it comes to fitting the track covers over the actual track.
Its a shame because ive even used a few track covers which fit perfectly within rct3, so it can definately be done.

http://goopedgamers.com/downloads/rct3-user-content/tools-importers/surfingoz-track-components

found 1 working link.
I dont think this is designed for inverted coasters or have banking turns/ loops/ barrel rolls etc etc though.

Please check out the "tutorials" subforum in the forums. If you don't find it there, make a help topic.
This is not the topic to ask that!

Excuse me for asking, but how does my question differ from the original question of this thread or better yet the subject of this thread? All I am asking is does a guide exist for monorail tracks and where I can find it?

I am sorry, but I am not the one to know that. You might want to PM builders around on the forums. There's  lots of CTR builders, so that wont be a problem!
